And suddenly
Fire
Eternally I search
You mean to tell me you do not?
You mean to tell me
You do not gaze
Upon the yawning plains of your existence
Stupefied and sombre
Scrambling to siphon sense
Simply for the sum to come up short
Time and time again
***
I know what I seek
Will never be found
When I grasp for its coattails howling in triumph
They nimbly slip through my clammy hands
But the spur of possibility
The thrill of pursuit
It reignites that what had lulled
Where my endurance nearly drowned
And I might have given up the race to roll over
The slow trickle of realization
Will never fail to startle my idle mind
Before I know
Neuronal currents burst
Heart fibers violently contract
Eyes focus sharper than they have in months
To see how light casts on scurrying tails once more
And suddenly,
Fire.
I burn to run
I had almost forgotten
The high of standing in flames
There is no winning catch
But I blaze regardless
The deep roar will propel me
Igniting my tracks as I chase
Chase all the way into my grave
